Hervey Bay Active Riders was founded in 1977 on a small parcel of land in Tooth Street, Pialba, where the club first established itself as a welcoming home for local equestrians. In its early years, the club provided a space for riders to gather, learn, and enjoy their horses within a supportive community environment.
As membership grew, the club relocated to Raward Road and began sharing the grounds with the Hervey Bay Pony Club. During this period, the two organisations operated side‑by‑side: younger riders typically progressed through Pony Club, while older or more experienced riders participated with Active Riders. This arrangement allowed both clubs to thrive and fostered a strong equestrian culture within the region. By the early 2000s, the Raward Road facilities could no longer accommodate the expanding needs of the local equestrian community. In response, the Hervey Bay City Council developed the Dundowran Equestrian Park on Lower Mountain Road - a purpose‑built venue designed to support multiple equestrian disciplines and clubs. On 13 November 2000, Hervey Bay Active Riders formally became an incorporated association, strengthening its organisational structure and ensuring long‑term stability. In 2004, Hervey Bay Active Riders were officially relocated to the new Dundowran Equestrian Park grounds. This move marked a significant milestone in the club’s development, providing modern facilities and ample space for continued growth, training, and community events. Today, Hervey Bay Active Riders continues to operate from Dundowran Equestrian Park, maintaining its long‑standing presence within the Hervey Bay equestrian community. The club prides itself on offering a safe, inclusive, and supportive family‑friendly environment for riders of all ages - from under‑10s through to members over 50 - ensuring that the spirit of horsemanship, learning, and camaraderie remains at the heart of everything it does. |
